My Birth plan

Birth Plan for Julie My primary caregiver is Dr. Tennille Cloward My support will be my husband, Chris; Doula, Laura; and my mom Ricki. I would like them present with me during labor and delivery. Chris and I look forward to a wonderful experience at American Fork. We desire a labor delivery as free from medical intervention as possible. We respectfully request the following of the staff if no emergencies arise: Labor: *Tub/shower access, if possible *Freedom to move around and change positions to promote comfort or progress *To have a disconnected IV prep instead of a fully functioning IV *Please offer encouragement rather than medication * Prefer the ability to eat or drink as needed *To wear the clothing of my choice Birth: *Start pushing when I have the urge to push rather than coached pushing *To give birth in whatever position is most comfortable for me *No episiotomy, prefer perineal massage, vitamin E, warm compress to help reduce risk of tearing *To have no manual extraction of my baby * To have mother or father receive baby once shoulders are clear Newborn care: *Please wait until the cord stops pulsating and allow Chris to then cut cord *Immediate skin-to-skin contact for breastfeeding *Please delay routine procedures until after bonding has been established *No cleaning or drying of the baby’s skin *No eye medication administered * No Hepatitis B shot * No bottle, formula or water. Strictly breastfeeding *Our baby will stay in the room with us as opposed to going to the nursery After Birth for Mother: *Prefer to allow my uterus to contract naturally, unless medically necessary *Unless for health reasons, I do not wish to be separated from the baby *Please allow Chris to remain with baby at all times in the case of an emergency where I cannot be with the baby *To keep and take home my placenta for personal use. Unexpected Events: • The safety of our baby and myself is first priority, and we will certainly be flexible in this plan to protect our safety. If a problem does occur, please inform us so we can discuss our options with you and decide the best course of action. Thank you!
